I have begun my educational descent into science fiction starting with The day the earth stood still (1951). Although, the moment of unintentional beauty, in which all we have learned in 55 years is exposed, occurs during a conversation between the doctor and the army official about the wounded spaceman. The spaceman has bullet in his arm, shot while explaining that he comes in peace...
"How old d'ya think he is?"
"38"
"Says he's 78"
"How can that be?"
"He says their medicine is more advanced than here on earth"
The army officer shakes his head in disbelief; helping himself to a cigarette he extends the packet to the doctor in a gesture of humanity.

Sheer brilliance Robert Wise. I wonder if you secretly knew.
